Elementa is recruiting for a Thrive Teacher to work within a specialist SEND and SEMH provision in Dorking, Surrey.
This role involves supporting secondary-aged students who have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences and significant barriers to learning. Many students have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) relating to SEMH needs and may present with challenging behaviour.
The successful candidate will use a therapeutic, nurturing and trauma-informed approach to help students develop emotional resilience, improve engagement with learning and build positive relationships. The school follows a holistic approach focused on emotional wellbeing, personal development and preparing young people for life beyond education.
The Role
As a Thrive Teacher, your role will include:
- Delivering targeted Thrive-based interventions and personalised learning support
- Teaching and supporting students on a 1:1, 2:1 or small group basis
- Promoting emotional regulation, resilience and social development
- Supporting students with reintegration into learning and wider school life
- Working collaboratively with pastoral teams, therapists and external professionals
- Using positive behaviour strategies and restorative approaches
- Monitoring, recording and reporting on student progress and wellbeing
- Maintaining strong safeguarding practices and professional boundaries
The ideal candidate will have a calm, resilient and nurturing approach, with the ability to build strong relationships whilst maintaining clear expectations and boundaries.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience working within SEND, SEMH or alternative provision settings
- Understanding of trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice
- Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and educational processes
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- Thrive Practitioner training or experience would be highly advantageous
- QTS/QTLS or relevant teaching experience desirable
A DBS on the Update Service would be preferable to support a quicker start date, due to potential delays with new applications.
