Are you an enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher with a specialism in Resistant Materials? Are you passionate about developing students’ creativity, problem-solving abilities, and practical skills through the design and manufacture of products using a range of materials and processes?
Elementa Support Services is working in partnership with a supportive and forward-thinking secondary school in Powys to recruit a knowledgeable and committed Teacher of Design Technology (Resistant Materials). This is an exciting opportunity to inspire students through engaging, hands-on learning in a well-equipped workshop environment.
About the Role
As a Teacher of Design Technology (Resistant Materials), you will:
• Plan and deliver engaging Resistant Materials lessons in line with the national curriculum
• Teach across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable where applicable)
• Develop students’ practical skills in working with wood, metals, plastics, and other materials
• Teach key principles of design, engineering, and manufacturing processes
• Promote creativity, problem-solving, and independent thinking through practical and theory-based lessons
• Ensure safe working practices and maintain a well-organised workshop environment
• Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
• Assess, monitor, and report on student progress effectively
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive behaviour at all times
• Contribute to departmental planning and the wider school community
What We’re Looking For
To be considered, candidates must have:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (Elementa can assist)
• Experience teaching Design Technology, specifically Resistant Materials, at secondary level (including placements)
• Strong subject knowledge including workshop processes, materials, and health & safety
• Confident classroom and workshop management skills
Desirable:
• Experience teaching KS5 Design Technology or Engineering-related courses
• A reflective and adaptable teaching approach
• A passion for practical, skills-based learning and innovation
