SENDCo
Type: Permanent (via 12 week trial contract)
Details: Full time, Monday to Friday
Location Melksham & Trowbridge
Start: ASAP
Pay: £27,000 - £35,000
Our client is an Alternative Provision, serving primary & secondary aged pupils. They have 2 sites in Melksham and a purpose-built new site in Trowbridge. We are seeking an adept SENDCo to add capacity and work across the 3 sites and cover all standard SENDCo job duties, as would usually be expected. Of course, working at an Alternative Provision that provides specific education for children that have SEMH, each child will have their own and often extensive EHCP. You may be at an advantage if you have previously worked in an SEMH-specific setting.
Due to the nature of the provision and the need to work across the 3 sites, it's essential that you have your own transport and are willing to transport students if required (compensated.)
Whilst you will be working in the role of SENDCo your ability to support your teaching & LSA colleagues will likely involve contact time with students, so you should also be a sound and versatile practitioner. There is a friendly, committed and small staff team so you will need to be a team player and willing to work outside your normal job remit as required. Equally, this is a fair employer and you would be supported & respected in your role.
At the secondary age ranges, the school deliver English, Maths, Humanities & PHSE to students aged 11-14 years old, but working at a lower age ability level. The primary phase formally opens in September and will steadily increase their intake as they receive Local Authority referrals. This is a highly successful AP that is currently undergoing expansion. Now is a great time to join and be part of building a great provision for students with additional needs.
If you have already had training in positive behaviour management (such as Team Teach) and/or THRIVE training we would be particularly interested in hearing from you. If you have practical experience of working with children displaying challenging behaviour and are successful in your application for this post, Team Teach training will be offered free of charge if you need the training.
It would be great to hear from you if you have…
- Experience in all aspects of EHCPs
- A qualification or extensive experience as a SENDCo (NASENCo / NASENDCo or other)
- Experience of working with children who have had to overcome barriers and difficult situations
- The ability to engage parents in supporting children at home by helping to set boundaries and managing behaviour
- The desire to go through training and deliver ideas so that ideas can be implemented.
- Passionate about working with young people in education
- Have a good understanding of what makes an effective intervention strategy
- Are committed to safeguarding young people and helping them overcome difficulties
- Are committed to ensuring students maximise every opportunity to achieve academically and personally
- Are able to work within a dynamic and challenging environment
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills
