SEND Lead English Teacher - SEMH, trauma

Salary: £125.23 - £201.53 per day during trial (£24,420 - £39,300 perm equivalent)
Our client is an independent provider supporting learners across all key stages 1-4 and also Post-16 although the majority of their learners are in KS3/4. The school supports x32 learners and this is at least on a 1-2-1 basis with additional learners support often provided. Invariably the learners have been out of mainstream education for a significant amount of time and often permanently excluded so supporting the educational development, emotional health/self-esteem are important in equal measures for the person considering this role.
The right person will ideally be a UK qualified teacher, with QTS/QTLS/PGCE/Cert Ed specialising in English. However, if you have a teaching qualification without QTS and have proven experience of delivering UK curriculum based lessons, we'd still love to hear from you.
All of the learners at this setting have an EHCP to define their additional needs or an EHCP in progress. Often learners can display challenging behaviour however staff use trauma informed approach and are appropriately trained in de-escalation strategies. The ideal candidate will already have this type of experience and training although training would be provided to align with their approach. Overall, creativity, perseverance and an empathetic approach when working with the learners is key to engaging them in education and ensuring their progression.
This role will involve:
- Delivering an adapted Primary English curriculum
- Delivering high-quality lessons to all learners
- Ensuring that all activities are accessible to individual learners that have a wide range of needs
- Understanding and supporting the challenges of the learners
- Motivating & inspiring the learners to engage & achieve
- Providing practical resources & strategies for colleagues to use & integrate into other lessons
- Helping to champion the work of all learners
Applicants best suited to this role will have previous experience of having worked with learners that have SEND (mainly SEMH & trauma) that have experienced other barriers or challenges to their education .
ECTs can be considered for this role however, currently, ECT induction cannot be supported.
