Our client runs a multi-site Alternative Education Provision service, serving primary and secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs relating mainly to ASC, SEMH with their main headquarters based in Weston Super Mare. They operate a ‘revolving-door’ offering whereby students stay at the provision for up to 18 weeks, either on a full-time or part-time basis before returning to mainstream education or attending a special school. Student places are funded by local school or local authority referral. We are currently recruiting for their new site in Peckham which is scheduled to open in September 2025. The site will have learners aged 5 - 14 years old (KS1, KS2 & KS3.)
We are seeking applicants with previous experience of having worked with and supported learners with additional needs relating to: SEMH & trauma who may have other needs relating to ASC / ASD. The ideal person will have significant experience in a SEND Learning Support Mentor, SEND HLTA or previous SEND Deputy Centre Lead role. We're looking for someone who is able to act as a positive role model for staff & learners and support the delivery of an alternative education curriculum.
Many of the learners have not engaged in education for a significant amount of time so an individual approach for each child is commonly necessary. If you have already had training in positive behaviour management such as Team Teach / PBM / MAPA and/or THRIVE training we would be particularly interested in hearing from you. Team Teach training will be offered free of charge and would be a requirement of the post.
The working day is from 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, term time only.
It would be great to hear from you if you have…
- Experience of working with children who have had to overcome barriers and difficult situations
- Are committed to safeguarding young people and helping them overcome difficulties
- Passionate about working with young people in education
- Have a good understanding of what makes an effective intervention strategy
- Are committed to ensuring students maximise every opportunity to achieve academically and personally
- Are able to work within a dynamic and challenging environment
- Experience of leading, supporting and managing SLT and/or a team of education support staff
- Have excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding the SEND landscape & funding mechanisms
- The ability to engage parents in supporting children at home by helping to set boundaries and managing behaviour
- The desire to go through training and deliver ideas so that ideas can be implemented.
The role is intended to transfer to a permanent contract upon successful completion of the trial period (60 paid days.) This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for a role which offers training opportunities and to be part of a supportive organisation which has further local expansion plans in the near future.
