Location: Wiveliscombe, Somerset 

Days: full-time
Pay: £265.50 - £348.19
Start: ASAP 

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Harrow on a part-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who require a tailored, compassionate approach to learning.

Job Summary:
As SENCO, you will lead and coordinate the provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the secondary school. Working closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, parents/carers, external agencies, and the local authority, you will ensure that students with SEND receive high-quality support that enables them to achieve their full potential. You will oversee EHCP processes, monitor student progress, provide guidance and training to staff, and promote an inclusive learning environment that meets statutory requirements and supports positive outcomes for all learners.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO), or currently working towards the qualification
  • Proven experience as a SENCO or within a SEN leadership role in a secondary school setting
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes, annual reviews, and statutory requirements
  • Experience supporting students with a range of special educational needs, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and learning difficulties
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage SEN provision on a contract basis
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with experience liaising with parents/carers, external professionals, and local authorities
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion, improving outcomes for students with SEND, and supporting staff through guidance and training
