School Caretaker

Elementa Support Services is working in partnership with supportive and forward-thinking schools across Cardiff to recruit dedicated and practical Caretakers who can ensure school premises are safe, secure, and well-maintained at all times.
This role offers the opportunity to play a vital part in the smooth day-to-day running of a school, supporting both staff and pupils by creating a positive and well-managed environment.
About the Role
As a Caretaker, you will:
• Open and close the school site, ensuring security procedures are followed
• Carry out general maintenance, minor repairs, and basic DIY tasks
• Monitor and maintain heating, lighting, and alarm systems
• Ensure health & safety regulations are met across the site
• Manage site cleanliness and liaise with cleaning teams where appropriate
• Conduct regular site inspections and report any issues promptly
• Support with setting up rooms and facilities for school events
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and site security at all times
What We’re Looking For
To be considered, candidates must have:
• Previous caretaking, site management, or facilities experience (school experience desirable)
• A strong understanding of health & safety procedures
• Practical maintenance and DIY skills
• Good communication and organisational skills
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (Elementa can assist)
Desirable:
• Experience working within a school environment
• Knowledge of COSHH and compliance requirements
• Basic ICT skills for logging maintenance records
