PSHE Teacher – SEMH & Trauma-Informed Provision

Elementa is recruiting for a PSHE Teacher to work within a specialist SEND and SEMH provision in Dorking, Surrey.
This role involves supporting secondary-aged students who have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and significant barriers to learning. Many students have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) relating to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and may present with challenging behaviour.
The school provides a therapeutic, nurturing, and highly personalised approach to education, helping students re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially.
The Role
As a PSHE Teacher, your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging PSHE lessons to KS2, KS3, or lower KS4 students
- Teaching students on a 1:1, 2:1, or small group basis
- Delivering lessons covering topics such as health and wellbeing, relationships, personal safety, emotional resilience, citizenship, and preparation for adulthood
- Differentiating lessons to meet a range of SEND and SEMH needs
- Supporting students' emotional regulation, confidence, and engagement with learning
- Using positive behaviour management and restorative approaches
- Assessing, recording, and reporting on student progress
- Working collaboratively with pastoral staff, therapists, and families
- Maintaining strong safeguarding practices and professional boundaries
The ideal candidate will have a calm, resilient, and adaptable approach, with the ability to build positive relationships whilst maintaining clear expectations and boundaries.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience working within SEND, SEMH, or alternative provision settings
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and trauma-informed practice
- Experience supporting or teaching students with challenging behaviour
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
- Ability to differentiate PSHE lessons to meet a range of additional learning and emotional needs
- QTS/QTLS or relevant teaching experience desirable
- Experience delivering PSHE, Citizenship, RSE, or pastoral education is advantageous
- Team Teach training or positive behaviour support experience would be beneficial
A DBS on the Update Service would be preferable to support a quicker start date, due to potential delays with new applications.
