This post for a SEND Learning Support Assistant is to join the permanent staff team at the schools' Yeovil site(s.) The right person should have experience of working with students that have SEMH and display challenging behaviours. This job role will be working as an outreach support LSA at local primary schools, mostly with the lower ages, to offer support and intervention strategies to staff and pupils. A lots of the work will be on a 1:1 basis. This particular Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) provides education for pupils of primary and secondary ages across KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4 based at the schools' Yeovil sites. This role is a permanent post/requirement the school will initiate the role on a trial contract via Elementa although the job role would be made permanent after successful completion of the 12 week/60 day trial.
This role is required on a 0.6 FTE basis (3 days per week.) There is a degree of flexibility regarding working hours & days; for example, the 3 days could be spread acros 4 or 5 days provided that the pupils support is being delivered as required. It's expected that the role would require likely working hours between 9am - 3pm with a more definitive timetable to follow. The role involves working at local primary schools providing intervention strategies to school teaching & support staff and working directly with pupils 1:1 & small groups to engage in education.
Naturally, working at a specialist PRU setting for students with SEMH will involve working with young & teenage learners that display challenging behaviour so resilience, a sense of humour, empathy and the desire to motivate learners whatever their background or ability will be key to being successful in this role. Commonly students that attend this school have often missed large parts of standard education or have significant knowledge gaps.
