Our client is an established Alternative Provision providing a learning environment for permanently excluded students. Across their sites they deliver in a variety of learning settings including classroom, creative studios and farm environments.
Student places are offered from from key stages 1 – 4, with learning packages specific to the individual learner. They have a proven positive track record of developing young learners and in particular, setting up their next steps out of education by supporting their applications to further education and apprenticeship schemes.
The role of a learning support mentor is similar to that of a teaching assistant / learning support assistant although supporting with more practical/physical skills in coaching learners. The work in this setting will largely be on a 1:1 basis working in close collaboration with the teaching staff. The ability to build rapport and have excellent communication skills to feedback on student progress will be key in order to be successful in this role.
Enhancing their offering, the AP are recruiting to expand their team of colleagues according to their local authority referrals. Their referrals have significantly increased over the last 12 months due to student progress and ultimately the success of their student outcomes when they move on from the setting.
Applications are invited from Learning Support Mentors that have experience of working with children that have difficult social backgrounds, SEMH challenges and that often display challenging behaviour. Previous experience of working with learners that have these challenges, Team Teach training or using other positive behaviour strategies would be an advantage in being considered for this job opportunity. For a successful applicant, free Team Teach training would be offered.
Due to the somewhat remote nature of the school sites, it’s beneficial that applicants have their own transport, business insurance (compensated) and the willingness to transport students if required (compensated.)
As Elementa is the recruiting partner all applicants still being considered for the role after pre-screening will be required to complete the registration process for both Elementa & the school. This includes full vetting & background checks and application for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure unless you have a current DBS on the update service. A clear DBS certificate is highly desirable however a positive DBS certificate is not an absolute barrier to being considered. All applicants will be promptly responded to.
