We are seeking a skilled and proactive Interim SENCO / Designated Safeguarding Lead to provide expert leadership for SEND and safeguarding within our Pupil Referral Unit. This is a key role during a period of transition, requiring a confident practitioner with substantial experience in PRUs, alternative provision or SEMH settings, and a deep understanding of the complex needs of our learners.
As Interim SENCO, you will oversee all aspects of SEND provision, ensuring that high-quality support plans, assessments and interventions are in place and that staff are equipped to deliver inclusive, trauma-informed practice. You will work closely with teachers, behaviour teams, external agencies and families to secure positive outcomes and ensure statutory responsibilities, including EHCP processes, are met with precision.
As DSL, you will take strategic and operational responsibility for safeguarding across the PRU. This includes leading on referrals, managing multi-agency work, ensuring robust recording and reporting, and developing a strong safeguarding culture where all staff understand their responsibilities and pupils feel safe, supported and understood.
The ideal candidate will be calm, highly organised and able to work with clarity in a fast-moving environment. You will bring strong relationship-building skills, sound professional judgement, and the ability to quickly establish credibility with staff, pupils and partners.
This interim role offers the chance to make a significant and immediate impact, ensuring the most vulnerable pupils receive the right support at the right time while strengthening safeguarding and SEND systems across the PRU.
