Our client is a new & expanding Alternative Education Provision, serving primary & secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs relating to learners with SEND, predominantly SEMH, based in Weston Super Mare and surrounding areas across the South West. The on-site offer is a ‘revolving-door’ approach whereby students stay at the provision for up to 18 weeks, either on a full-time or part-time 'transition' basis before returning to a mainstream education setting or attending a special school. Many of the learners that the client supports have not engaged in education for a significant amount of time so commonly, an individualised approach for each child is necessary.
The client is now responding to demand and is offering home tutoring for students unable to attend a site for a range of reasons. The roles available will be usually tutoring on a 1-2-1 basis and are normally delivered in person. On occasison the client does deliver online tutoring however this is often as a starting point for the tutoring to develop from.
The role of the tutor would be to assess the needs of the student, preparing appropriately engaging tasks specific to the student, delivering the learning and reviewing the work completed. The ideal candidate will have previous experience of having worked with a learners that have additional needs, particularly anxiety or trauma and a good understanding of how to provide appropriate support and meet the needs of the learner.
To be eligible for any of the tutoring roles you must currently be resident in the UK, have Right To Work without requiring employer sponsorship and be able to meet face to face if required (usually in the Weston Super Mare area but potentially another area.)
For this role you do not need to be a qualified teacher however you must:
- good subject knowledge for English & Maths
- experience of delivering 1:1 learning or have previous experience of leading learning sessions (preparing, delivering, assessing)
- be flexible with your hours of availability
- be willing to respond to the needs of the child
- be confident in re-engaging learners with educational activities
- be empathetic to the needs of the child; emotional and practical
It's anticipated that there will be a significant demand for additional tutoring spaces so there may be similar additional tutoring opportunities upcoming.
