Elementa Support Services is working in partnership with a Welsh-medium secondary school in Cardiff to recruit a dedicated Attendance Officer to support the promotion of good attendance across its primary cluster schools.
This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to pupils' educational outcomes by working closely with families, school staff, and external agencies to identify barriers to attendance, implement early interventions, and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
About the Role
As an Attendance Officer, you will:
• Monitor, analyse, and report on pupil attendance data across the school cluster
• Follow up on unexplained absences and attendance concerns
• Support early intervention strategies to improve attendance and engagement
• Build positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers, and school staff
• Carry out home visits where appropriate to support attendance improvement
• Work collaboratively with external agencies and support services
• Provide advice, guidance, and support to families regarding attendance matters
• Maintain accurate records and utilise school IT systems effectively
• Attend relevant meetings and contribute to pupil wellbeing and attendance planning
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive educational outcomes at all times
What We’re Looking For
To be considered, candidates must have:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
• Strong organisational and administrative skills
• Good IT skills and confidence using data management systems
• The ability to build positive and professional relationships with children, young people, and families
• A strong understanding of the importance of attendance in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing
• Welsh language skills suitable for working within a Welsh-medium school environment
• A full UK driving licence and access to transport
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (Elementa can assist)
Desirable:
• Previous experience working within a school, education, pastoral, or family support setting
• Experience supporting attendance improvement initiatives
• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and multi-agency working
• Experience conducting home visits or working directly with families
