Are you passionate about unlocking potential and transforming lives?
Join Us as a Dyslexia Teacher!
In the UK, there are over 800,000 children with dyslexia and with the average child spending most of their developmental years in the classroom, a lot of responsibility falls on teachers and our academies to create learning systems that support students who process information in a different way.
This beneficial teaching opportunity, based at City Academy in Bristol, will involve planning and delivering both 1:1 and small group interventions outside a student's main timetable. The post holder may work with different year groups but generally support the same student/students weekly. Sitting within our established SEND team, this role is offered to a qualified, or non-qualified teacher looking to make a meaningful impact on some of our students lives. With our commitment to high expectations, a joy-filled curriculum, and excellent teaching, you’ll help pupils build confidence, resilience, and a love of learning. If you have strong subject knowledge, creativity in adapting teaching, and a drive to make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
About you:
You will be:
- hold the relevant experience to teach students with Dyslexia in a classroom
- a qualified teacher (desirable), hold an equivalent teaching qualification
- able to meet the needs of learners from key identified groups, including pupil premium, looked after children, SEND and High Attaining students.
- a strong communicator with the ability to embrace change, motivate colleagues and build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
- able to recognise, value and support the delivery of opportunities which extend beyond the confines of classroom delivery and seek to enrich and add value to the students experience & learning.
- empowered to develop your own expert practice and support the development of others.
Desirable:
- Qualified Teacher Status
- Completion of a postgraduate-level course at or equivalent to Level 7, including at least 100 hours relating to individual specialist assessment of learners with Dyslexia/SpLD, or Exam Access Arrangements.
- Holding a current SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate, as awarded by BDA, the Dyslexia Guild, or Patoss and listed on the SASC website. This should include a strong understanding of the theoretical basis underlying psychometric tests, such as:
- Concepts of validity and reliability
- Standard deviations and the normal curve
- Raw scores, standard scores, quotients, percentiles, and age-equivalent scores
- Statistically significant discrepancies between scores
- Standard error of measurement and confidence intervals
