Elementa is recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEND and SEMH setting in Dorking, Surrey.
The provision supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, ADHD and trauma-related barriers to learning. The school provides a nurturing and supportive environment focused on helping students develop academically, socially and emotionally.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, your role will involve supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom to help them engage positively with education and overcome barriers to learning.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting students on a 1:1, 2:1 or small group basis
- Assisting the teacher with lesson delivery and classroom activities
- Supporting students’ emotional wellbeing and behaviour regulation
- Encouraging positive engagement with learning
- Helping maintain a safe, structured and supportive environment
- Promoting the school’s high expectations and values
- Supporting students with SEND and SEMH needs
- Assisting with safeguarding and pastoral support where required
The ideal candidate will have a calm, patient and resilient approach, with the ability to build positive relationships whilst maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
Experience in a similar role is desirable, or previous experience working with children or young people in education, care, youth work or support settings.
The contract is initially temporary, with the potential for a permanent opportunity for the right candidate.
A DBS on the Update Service would be preferable to allow for a quicker start date due to potential delays with new applications.
