Help young people turn challenges into opportunities.
Do you have the confidence to stay calm under pressure, the compassion to build trust, and the resilience to make a real difference?
Elementa Support Services is recruiting on behalf of a welcoming secondary school in Caerphilly for an exceptional Behaviour and Learning Mentor to join their dedicated behaviour and pastoral team.
This isn't your typical classroom support role. Every day is different. You'll be out and about across the school, building positive relationships with pupils, providing guidance when it's needed most, and helping students overcome barriers that might otherwise prevent them from achieving their potential.
If you're someone who thrives on making a genuine impact and believes every young person deserves the chance to succeed, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
As a Behaviour and Learning Mentor, you'll:
-
Build positive, professional relationships with pupils through encouragement, consistency and trust
-
Support students whose behaviour or circumstances present barriers to learning
-
Be a visible presence around the school, helping maintain a calm, safe and positive environment throughout the day
-
Deliver targeted mentoring and behaviour interventions on a one-to-one and small-group basis
-
Help pupils develop resilience, emotional regulation and confidence
-
Respond calmly to challenging situations, using restorative approaches and positive behaviour strategies
-
Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, ALN teams and senior leaders to support individual pupils
-
Encourage excellent attendance, punctuality and engagement with learning
-
Champion safeguarding, wellbeing and inclusion in everything you do
We're looking for someone who...
-
Has substantial experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour
-
Is compassionate and approachable whilst maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations
-
Is confident, resilient and able to think on their feet
-
Is physically fit and enjoys being active—you'll spend much of the day walking around the school supporting pupils and staff
-
Can build strong relationships with even the most reluctant learners
-
Is reliable, proactive and enjoys working as part of a supportive team
-
Wants to help young people make positive choices and reach their full potential
-
Can start immediately or at short notice
Experience in schools, youth work, sports coaching, residential care, mentoring, social care, the armed forces or similar environments where relationship-building and behaviour management are key would be highly valued.
