About the Role
Are you the kind of teacher who sees beyond challenging behaviour, recognises hidden potential, and believes that every young person deserves a fresh start?
If so, we want YOU!
Elementa Support Services is seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and experienced Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Teacher to join a dedicated educational setting in Gwynedd.
We're looking for someone who understands that learning isn't always straightforward, particularly for pupils who have experienced trauma or adversity.
The successful candidate will have experience supporting learners affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and will confidently use trauma-informed teaching approaches to help pupils rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships, and rediscover their love of learning.
This isn't just another teaching opportunity – it's your chance to make a genuine difference, one learner at a time!
Key Responsibilities
As an ALN Teacher, you will:
-
Plan and deliver inspiring, accessible, and differentiated lessons for pupils with a range of additional learning needs.
-
Apply trauma-informed teaching strategies to create a safe, predictable, and supportive learning environment.
-
Understand and respond sensitively to the impact of ACEs on learners' emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and academic progress.
-
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education.
-
Support learners in developing emotional regulation, resilience, independence, and self-confidence.
-
Implement individualised learning plans and adapt teaching strategies to meet pupils' needs.
-
Use positive, restorative, and relationship-based approaches to behaviour management.
-
Collaborate with teaching assistants, ALNCOs, families, and external professionals.
-
Assess and monitor progress, celebrating every achievement, no matter how small.
-
Foster an inclusive classroom culture where every learner feels heard, respected, and encouraged.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an ALN Teacher who:
-
Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
-
Has previous experience teaching or supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs.
-
Has a thorough understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact on child development.
-
Is experienced in applying trauma-informed teaching practices within an educational setting.
-
Demonstrates excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
-
Is patient, empathetic, adaptable, and resilient.
-
Can build positive relationships with learners who may struggle to engage in traditional classroom environments.
-
Has experience in specialist ALN settings, alternative provision, or PRUs (desirable).
-
Holds an Enhanced DBS certificate or is willing to apply for one.
-
Is registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) or willing to complete registration.
Welsh language skills would be advantageous, although they are not essential for this role.
